I have been fiddling with this off and on for years as an amateur
songwriter. I wonder why Gibson described it as "MAJOR chord with
descending bassline?" A piece I'm working on now (only coincidentally
intended as part of a larger work attempting to score "Neuromancer") starts
from a minor chord.
3:4 time sig, each chord lands on beat 1 of each successive measure:
Dm
C#+
Dm7/C(*)
G/B(*)
Bb
Dm/A
Bb7b5/Ab(*)
A7
(*) Not strictly kosher, in my book, to use a 3rd or 7th in the baseline,
but hey, y'know?
The cool thing about this progression is that you can use numerous repeating
riffs over the top of it.
I'm using it (voiced like a spacey cabaret piece, w/an accordion-like lead,
at about 90 bpm) behind the scene where Riviera performs for Case, Molly,
and 3Jane in the nightclub.
