Most of the notes below are from research provided by my cousin's spouse, Cate O'Neal:
Born about 1873. In the 1900 NE census she and her husband, Norman Rothholz, are living with Rosalia. In the 1910, Gussie is gone, but Norman Rothholz is listed as a lodger, widowed. There are no children living with Norman so they either never had children, or the children died young
Born about 1875. Have not done much in the way of tracing him. I have him living with the family in the 1885 census, but he is gone by the 1900. I believe he and Jake move around together for a while, first in MO, then IL, with Morris settling in Chicago. I have not found any evidence to support this yet, outside of a few possibles in censuses. I do have him and Jake operating a saloon/hotel in Kansas City MO. They are listed in the city directories together for a few years, until about 1913.
From Bobbe Mootchnik: Morris Kopald died in Napa, CA in 1959Notes from Ruth O'Neal: "Morris Kopald, I knew well. He lived in San Francisco, was married and went through the San Francisco earthquake (took him 2 weeks steady walking to find his wife. He found her out at beach among large group of refugees.) He sold for a Tobacco Company, and his route was Chinatown. One day the company fired him after many many years and hired a young feller. Morris was traumatized by his being fired. Moped around. Chinatown heard. NOT ONE TOBACCO client made a purchase from young feller. Tobacco Company hired Morris back!!! After his wife died, he moved to L.A., gambled in Garden City, and eventually died in L.A. (or environs)"
[My great-grandmother]
Born about 1879. He turns up in the 1900 MO census, living alone. As mentioned above, he appears in the Kansas City MO city dir's from about 1910 to 1915 as a saloon/hotel operator with his brother Morris. I believe the last couple of years Morris is not mentioned, and I assume this is when he left for Chicago. In any case, Jake is living in Minneapolis by 1920 with his wife Edna DeLa Plain and their daughter Augusta, born about 1904. Edna's mother Leonora is also living with them. I see Augusta in Social Security Death Index dying in the early 1970's in Minneapolis. It appears she never married, as she is listed under her maiden name. In the 1920 census, Jake lists his birthplace as "Tarnuf", Austria. This is most likely Tarnow, but I don't believe this was the actual town he was born in. Generally, if anything more specific than a country was listed in this spot, it was region or province. The most common one from Austria, of which you've probably heard, is Galicia. Hopefully, other records we find will clear this up
Notes from Ruth O'Neal: "Jake's children... another cousin of Rudy's we called Gussie. She was married to a dentist in L.A. named Nathan Zipperman. (Mother Edna came out to L.A. and she was a big problem for Gussie and Nate. She loved the horses, and took Gussie to the horse races when she was two weeks old. She also had been hospitalized and became a drug addict after hospitalization, so she was always disappearing somewhere and drove sweet Gussi , also Nate, out of their minds."
Born about 1881. Must've been born immediately before they left to come to US as birthplace is listed as Germany. Don't have much info on her. She is living with Rosalia in the 1910 census, working in the restaurant. After Rosalia disappears, she continues to be listed with her brothers, Charles & Henry in the city directory until about 1917. I imagine she marries at this time, and with no idea of her married name, I think she's a dead end for the time being.
Born about 1883 in Nebraska. Don't have much info on him either. He is in 1910 with Rosalia. He is in the 1910 Census with Rosalia and Fanny, and in the city dir's throughout most of the teens. I don't have him in the Omaha World War I Drafts (1917/18), so I believe he had left Omaha by that time.
Born 1885 in Nebraska. Appears to be the only one who remained in Omaha. Operated the restaurant after Rosalia leaves, and later a different one. He marries a Theresa Rubin and has a son, also a Leon, by 1920. He dies about 1926.
Additional Notes:
Rosalia's husband, Leon Kopald: Imm. to US 1880/1881 with family. Hotel/Restaurant Keeper in Omaha. Died 25 Feb 1894.
